Giving Back

Cocomira is committed to giving back to the community.

Plan International Canada
Since chocolate is such an important part of the Cocomira story, it made sense to us to help a child living in a cocoa producing region of the world. We are proud to sponsor Augustine, who is six-years old and lives with his parents, who are farmers in the Gomoa District in Ghana, through Plan International Canada Inc.  Augustine attends a nursery school close by,
and is in good health. Plan has been working in Ghana since 1992 and in Augustine’s district since 2001. Plan works in partnership with local organizations and the government to improve the quality of basic education, to improve water, health and sanitation facilities, facilitate new agricultural practices and in general raise awareness of children’s rights.

Eat to the Beat
This year marks the 15th anniversary of Eat to the Beat, the annual fundraiser for Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada (Willow). Cocomira will be participating in this year’s fundraiser, and we encourage you to visit their website and buy a ticket for this fun-filled evening of food, drinks, silent auction action and fun. Eat to the Beat showcases over 60 of Canada’s finest female chefs, gathered in support of Willow’s free programs and services. Willow was founded in 1994, with a mission to provide targeted information and confidential support to anyone in Canada affected by breast cancer. All of Willow’s support programs are offered free of charge. Over the years, Eat to the Beat has raised over $2.9 million to support Willow.  This year’s fundraiser will be on Tuesday Oct. 5th at Roy Thomson Hall. Visit www.eattothebeat.ca for more information and to buy tickets.

Living With Purpose & Wellspring
Living With Purpose raises funds for charities and non-profit organizations in the Niagara area. Their goal is to support local organizations that make their community a better place to live. In June 2008, Living With Purpose hosted a gala fundraiser for Wellspring - a network of cancer support in the Niagara region. Wellspring provides counselling, support and education
for cancer patients and their families along with training for healthcare professionals. Their aim is to help patients through a difficult and emotionally draining time. With the assistance of Cocomira and several other businesses in the community, Living With Purpose raised $5,000 for Wellspring.

Plan works in partnership with local organizations and the government to improve the quality of basic education, to improve water, health and raise awareness of children’s rights.
